Inspiration – Signs from the Other Side

Artists and writers are often inspired by creative muses, which come in various forms and at unexpected times. In my case, it was the moon that inspired a body of work that I didn’t realize I had within me.

After moving through a difficult phase in my life, it was the moon that taught me the significance of transition – and how our life journeys are always shifting from darkness into light, and cycling around again.

Inspiration comes when you’re least expecting it, even from the other side – as described by author Bill Philipps in his new book, Signs from the Other Side: Opening to the Spirit World – which was recently published by New World Library.

This book offers techniques for listening to intuition and asking questions, as well as ways of using prayer, meditation, and affirmations to help readers connect with the other side as a source of inspiration. It also explores the nature of signs — which may come in unexpected ways — so that readers can feel, see, and hear the nuggets of guidance they are receiving as they judge their veracity and experience the comfort and peace they provide.

I asked Bill to join me on my blog today to share his thoughts about inspiration – and how he has been guided through messages from the other side.

What inspired you to write your book, Signs from the Other Side?

I wanted people to have a guidebook that they could reference to help them recognize how they can stay connected to their loved ones in spirit. I want everyone to know that our relationships do not have to end in death and that the deep love and connections we make in life are eternal.

You say in the book that spirits are trying to connect with us in a multitude of ways. Will you give us a few examples of how the people we love on the other side might be reaching out to us?

A lot of times I find that they connect to us in a way that they know we will be receptive to. If someone is more tech savvy, then his/her loved one might send a sign on the phone or on a clock or via something electrical – maybe lights flickering. If someone is an outdoor person, then their deceased loved one may send them a message while they are walking on the beach, such as a hand-dug sign in the sand that says “I love Mom” or something to this effect. It’s something personal sent to the receiver that they will recognize. Or it could be the deceased person’s sign, like their favorite song comes on the radio and it makes you think of them. It varies in numerous ways but, in the end, it will always be the message that you need at a time when you truly needed it.

What would you say is the most common way that spirits try to contact us in this realm?

The signs vary depending on the individual, but what comes to mind as a common sign, especially in our modern day and age, is when a spirit manipulates electricity. Because spirits are pure energy, they can manipulate and alter electrical currents. And because this is such a tangible and irrefutable sign it really gets people’s attention and validates the message that they are amongst us.

Are there certain things we can do to reach out to our loved ones on the other side to let them know we’re listening?

Speak to them out loud. Even just thinking of them will connect them to you. You can pray to them and meditate to open to them. But something as simple as thinking of them can go a long way.

You talk a lot about prayer in your book. How has prayer served as a source of creative inspiration for you?

Prayer is the personal and intimate relationship we have with God, or whatever our higher power may be, to communicate our current and future hopes and desires. Simply put, it is talking to God. Prayer, as it relates to this book, is a way to communicate with our deceased loved ones, asking them to show us signs that they are with us.

Prayer connects us to our highest good and to our intuitive selves. It is like casting a fishing net into the ocean, trying to catch something nourishing in its depths. Prayer is a way for us to set our intention.

How can you use the guidance of prayer for your benefit?

It can be as simple as saying to your deceased grandmother, “Grandma, I need your help…” That request will lift your energy and vibration from your earthly mind-set to a higher, spiritual level.

In the physical form, we are going to experience difficult times and negative thoughts. We are programmed as human beings to always be in survival mode (or worry mode). That fear is part of our human fabric. But we always can tune in to the love of the other side, the love of God, which truly does transform our thinking into the positive. Those fearful thoughts are reminders to use prayer to plug back into the space of universal love, where anything is possible.

I have personally done this to feel close to my Grandma who passed away from cancer. Her loss was a profound personal experience, and it set the tone for a life of spirituality that I didn’t know before. Thank you for this post!
