• Turning Brokenness into Beauty

Many of us are familiar with the saying, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” Think about the dandelion. While one might see a weed, another might see a beautiful and vibrant yellow flower – or perhaps something that they can add to a salad that’s high in nutrients. It’s all a matter of perspective. And in several cultures across the globe, beauty is celebrated in unique ways, depending on how it’s viewed. In Japan, for example, broken objects are often repaired with gold. The flaw is seen as a unique piece of the object’s history – which adds to its beauty. Thinking about yourself and your own life, what do you consider “broken?” And how might another see this “flaw” as beauty? These…

  • Writing Like a Madwoman

As a possibility artist, and a certified creativity and life alchemy coach, one of the greatest joys in my work with clients is that magical moment when the dots connect – when a highly-creative and talented woman owns her brilliance. This is exactly what happened with former client, Marta Luzim – when she claimed her genius work and birthed “Writing Like a Madwoman.” This signature body of work encapsulates Marta’s life journey and her innate gifts and talents in the most beautiful of ways, as she helps other women claim their inner madwoman through the art of deep writing and the excavation of their complex personal stories. It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to a woman who has inspired the vulnerability in my…

  • Preparing for a Dramatic New Beginning

On a recent summer evening walk on Coast Guard Beach here on Cape Cod, I took this photo of the extraordinary sky that was unfolding above me. It was right on the edge of day, turning into night. It was quite a dramatic shift! It reminded me of the times in my life where I felt a dramatic shift within me, as I contemplated a significant life transition. There was a feeling of moving into darkness, to prepare for the next wave of light. I did a lot of journal writing during those times as I processed what was happening, getting clear on what I was letting go of – and what I was keeping on my journey forward. It felt just as dramatic as the…

  • Are You on a “Caterpillar to Butterfly” Journey?

On a recent walk along one of my favorite Cape Cod nature trails, I noticed a butterfly crossing my path. It stayed with me for a few minutes, eventually landing on a gorgeous pink azalea that had just bloomed. I began thinking about this butterfly – and the transformation it had taken to become one. It reminded me of a favorite quote by beloved poet Maya Angelou. “We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.” Every great transformation – whether personal, professional or creative – involves a process that isn’t always pleasant. There are many twists and turns, lots of creating and adjusting, and a necessary willingness to see it all through. It’s…

  • The Woman in the Moon

We’ve all heard the saying, “the man in the moon.” But what exactly does that mean? By using analogies related to the moon, what emerges after the “new moon” (the darkness of being in the raw) is the first crescent – a peek at what’s to come. A “new you” begins to emerge as life’s many layers are slowly peeled off – and we begin to see the brightness shining from underneath all the rubble. This is our inner light. All of a sudden, we become that woman in the moon – a woman with a very unique face, a face that we can call our own. When you look at a waxing crescent moon, you can see the tip of a face that’s beginning to emerge. The…
